On Saturday 13 July 2019, space on the fourth floor of NCCS was dressed up in garden-themed décor for the day.The morning was dedicated to "Portraits of Hope", a free family portrait service, benefiting a few NCCS patients and their families.
Rooms in NCCS were converted into a photography studio by volunteers from Raffles Studio, and a beauty zone staffed by volunteers from Shiseido Life Quality Beauty Center and Shiseido Professional that sponsored specialized makeup and hairstyling services. There was also a bonding space for families to decorate their own family photo frame. This scrapbooking activity was facilitated by staff and patient volunteers.
For many, it is a luxury or special occasion that prompts a family to get a professional family portrait done. However, when a person or a family struggles to cope with cancer, a family portrait is less of a priority. And yet more often than not, the support of loved ones and images of good memories with them serve as a powerful source of strength and hope.
It was a special and heart-warming experience with the families, seeing their faces light up with smiles and knowing that the portraits served as unique gifts.
